The Faces That Make Us: Jennifer Conner
Jennifer Conner once described herself as a blessed stay-at-home mom and the happiest school bus driver for East Penn School District. That changed after attending an event at DeSales with her son, a current Bulldog and soon-to-be graduate.
At the event, she requested assistance from the DSU police department. She was so inspired by the response of Richard Williams, chief of police, she decided she’d like to join our community as a police and public safety dispatcher. Now, not only do she and her eldest son call DeSales home—her youngest son will begin his undergraduate career here in Fall 2024.
How does your role contribute to the safety of the campus community?
DSUPD takes the safety and security of the campus community very seriously. One of my primary functions is answering emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, gathering detailed and essential information from the callers, and disseminating that information to the on-duty police officers in a timely fashion. This ensures a prompt response by well-informed officers who are always here to help.
What do you wish people knew about our police department?
Our officers are all actual police officers with decades of experience, previously serving at various levels within our local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. They’re knowledgeable, friendly, and very approachable, so no one in the campus community should be fearful of contacting them for any reason. Also, DSUPD offers training and information courses for students and employees, such as Rape Aggression Defense training and Run, Hide, Fight training. The DSUPD family and our camaraderie, along with the positive interactions we have with the students here on campus.
Favorite things to do in the Lehigh Valley?
My family and I always enjoy going to the PPL Center for a Phantoms hockey game or to the IronPigs stadium for a summer baseball game. We are looking forward to summer to enjoy a night out at Rising River in Macungie.
Top tips for staying safe on campus?
Be aware of your surroundings. Do not allow anyone in any of the buildings they are not permitted to be in, and if you see something suspicious, say something.
