What to Prepare

The DeSales Dance Department audition will consist of a brief ballet technique class, contemporary/modern dance technique class, and improvisation. Interviews with faculty members will be schedule the week of February 8 via Zoom. Please wear form fitting athletic attire, ballet slippers for ballet, and bare feet for modern. The improvisation portion will allow students to present their abilities in the style of dance they feel most fluent.

Prior to your audition, we ask that you send a dance photo, resume, one letter of recommendation from a dance teacher, and a writing sample answering the question, "Why do you want to study dance at DeSales University?" If you do not send these items prior to the audition, you may bring them with you when you arrive. Please email these materials to Rebecca Righi at

We are accepting virtual dance auditions, too!

The Dance Department at DeSales University will be accepting virtual auditions for artistic acceptance into our program on a rolling basis. In order to facilitate and standardize the assessment of virtual auditions, the dance faculty have provided a brief ballet and contemporary modern combinations for all applicants to perform. We recognize that not all dancers are currently training in ballet and modern styles, which is why the final portion of this virtual audition is a solo or improvisation in the dance style in which you feel most fluent. Once your virtual audition materials have been accepted, you will be contacted by the dance faculty to schedule a Zoom interview. To be considered for a talent scholarship, please submit your virtual audition no later than March 1, 2021. For more information on how to submit a virtual audition, please contact Rebecca Righi, Director of Recruitment, at
