  • Full-Time Faculty: Sport and Exercise Physiology (Tenure-Track Position)

    The Department of Sport and Exercise Physiology at DeSales University invites applications for full-time tenure-track faculty position in Sport and Exercise Physiology to begin in the fall semester, 2022.  A Ph.D. or A.B.D. in exercise physiology is required.   Professional certification as a Board Certified Exercise Physiologist (E.P.C.) by the American Society of Exercise Physiologists is highly desirable.   

    The successful candidate will teach undergraduate-level courses in Exercise Physiology, Fitness Assessment, Exercise Prescription and related topics. Teaching may also involve courses in Anatomy and Physiology.  Since DeSales University places a primary emphasis on teaching, preference will be given to candidates with significant teaching experience.   Student advisement, mentoring of undergraduate research activity and coordination of exercise physiology laboratory work are additional expectations of the position.

  • Full Time Faculty: Theatre

    DeSales University's Division of Performing Arts invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in the area of Theatre.  The position requires candidates with an MFA or PhD in theatre, or a terminal degree in a directly related field. Candidates should also possess a wide skill-set and a recognized body of work as a theatre artist, and demonstrate a successful record of undergraduate teaching experience. This position is a nine-month appointment.

    Responsibilities include a 4/4 teaching load, concentrated in the following areas:

    • Directing one production per year.
    • Directing qualifies as a single teaching load.
    • Teaching courses in Directing, Theatre History, Modern European/Modern American/Contemporary Theatre, World Theatre.

    DeSales University's Theatre Department offers a BA degree in Theatre with 130 majors in four tracks (Acting for Stage and Screen, Musical Theatre, Design and Technology, and Theatre Education) and 8 full time faculty members.   • Full Time Faculty: Speech-Language Pathology

    DeSales University invites applications for three full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty positions in our newly developing Communication Sciences & Disorders program. Rank will be commensurate with experience and accomplishment.

    We value innovative and evidence-based instruction, interprofessional training, community engagement, and culturally responsive practice. Along with dedicated classroom and clinical laboratory space, the Speech Language Pathology (SLP) program shares classrooms, a human gross anatomy laboratory, and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center with students in our nationally recognized nursing, physical therapy, and physician assistant science programs.   

    The SLP program will host the first and only University Speech Clinic in the greater Lehigh Valley region to provide treatment for underserved populations across diagnoses, the lifespan, and the diversity of backgrounds in our community. With a strong medical SLP tract and a global mindset that includes bilingual/multi-lingual services, we expect to have significant impact on the greater Lehigh Valley community, student learning, and faculty growth and contribution to the field. 

    The program will offer undergraduate majors and the degree of Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. The graduate program will prepare students for entry level practice as speech-language pathologists with the opportunity to focus on medical and bilingual/multicultural practice. The inaugural class will begin in the fall of 2022 on the beautiful DeSales campus in Center Valley, PA.

    Job Description

    Qualifications include a doctorate (PhD, EdD)  (ABD considered), CCC-SLP or eligibility, evidence of research activity, and commitment to effective classroom teaching.

    We are seeking applicants with expertise in the following areas:

    • Adult neurogenic disorders (aphasia, cognitive communication)
    • Dysphagia
    • Head and neck cancer
    • Voice
    • Fluency
    • Motor speech disorders
    • Bilingual/multi-cultural expertise
    • Other specialties may be considered

    This position is accountable for the following:

    1. Teaching, scholarship and service responsibilities consistent with university expectations for full-time faculty members
    2. Teaching core curriculum and other courses based on areas of content knowledge and when appropriate supervising students within areas of clinical expertise in the University Speech & Hearing Clinic
    3. Understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement
    4. Providing effective, ongoing communication with clinical educators and students while monitoring and documenting the academic performance of students to assure that they successfully achieve the outcomes for completing the program
    5. Establishing and maintaining a plan for self-development that includes the participation in and enhancement of teaching and development of scholarly activities consistent with the SLP program, CAA, and University expectations

    All faculty members at DeSales are expected to contribute to university, division and program level service, including student advisement, scholarly activity and professional development, and support the university, division, and program's missions and visions and advance the strategic plan.

    Minimum Requirements

    • PhD, EdD (ABD may be considered)
    • Knowledge of communication disorders across the lifespan
    • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills
    • An awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience

    Preferred Requirements

    •  Pennsylvania licensure (or eligible) in Speech-Language Pathology
    • Prior teaching experience at the graduate level with demonstrated understanding of adult learning theory and principles
    • Membership in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is highly valued

  • Full Time Faculty: Psychology

    DeSales University’s Department of Social Sciences housed in the Division of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites applications for a full-time non-tenure position as Assistant Professor of Psychology to begin August 2022.   • Full Time Faculty: Clinical Coordinator, Physician Assistant Program (Tenure-Track Position)

    DeSales University seeks a Clinical Coordinator for its Physician Assistant Program. This 12-month, full-time tenure-track position is responsible for obtaining and maintaining clinical training sites for students and visiting and evaluating students and their preceptors during their clinical rotations within the greater Lehigh Valley. There is also responsibility for student advising and classroom/lab teaching.  

    Surgical and/or anatomy experience is preferred but all candidates will be considered. Applicants should enjoy a team-teaching concept and a dynamic, student-centered environment. One day per week release time is given for continued clinical practice. The ideal candidate will either be a physician assistant or a physician eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania. Physician Assistants should be NCCPA certified.  Physicians should be board certified. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.     The nationally recognized PA Program has been very successful with over 99% pass rates on the PANCE and winning the AAPA National Challenge Bowl six times.  The University has recently completed a $27 million building for the program with a state-of-the-art simulation center and a human anatomy lab.  Students also run a free clinic at the Allentown Rescue Mission with faculty supervision.

  • Full Time Faculty: Assistant Professor of English and Director of the Graduate MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing

    DeSales University's Department of Humanities, housed in the Division of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, invites applications for a full-time non-tenure position as Assistant Professor of English to begin August 2022. 

    The candidate should have either, or both of:

    • A completed PhD in contemporary or modern literature in English.  ABDs will be considered only with degree in hand by June of 2022. 
    • An MFA in Creative Writing with publication in one or more of the following: fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction.  MFAs in progress will be considered only with degree completion by June of 2022.

    Applicants must have broad familiarity with contemporary English language writers in fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland and Scotland. 

    Previous academic administrative experience is desirable, as well as a record of university teaching and study and/or travel in Ireland/Scotland/Canada.  

    Responsibilities include teaching two undergraduate courses per semester in creative writing, journalism, literature, or composition, in addition to directing the MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing.  Duties of the Director in addition to those mentioned above include: 

    • Scheduling two residencies each year, one on campus in January and one in Ireland, Scotland or Canada in the first week of August. This includes scheduling lodging, food and travel arrangements for MFA students and mentors, and booking guest lecturers in all three genres, as well as publishing professionals from the host country and arranging their travel.
    • Preparing and scheduling two practicum semesters and one thesis semester per year.
    • Regular meetings and communication with the fiction and poetry mentors of the program. 
    • Student recruitment within and beyond DeSales, including periodic meetings with PR/Marketing to promote the program. 
    • Serving on the Academic Affairs Graduate Council.
    • Producing the program’s annual report and annual budget.

    In addition, the faculty member will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarship and professional development, and engage in service to the University.

  • Full Time Faculty: Anatomist (Tenure-Track Position)

    The Division of Healthcare Professions at DeSales University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Anatomy.  This interprofessional position consists of teaching gross anatomy, lecture and cadaveric lab, to various graduate programs, such as the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, the Doctor of Physical Therapy, and the Master of Science in Speech Pathology. Additional teaching may include courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology that serves the undergraduate Biological Sciences and Nursing programs.

    An additional responsibility will be to oversee and manage the cadaver lab. This position will supervise a lab technician to assist in the procurement and care of donors and the possible scheduling of the lab for use by entities external to the university.

    Salary and rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and training. Preference will be given to applicants with experience and documented excellence in teaching cadaveric human anatomy. The candidate is required to have a MS in anatomy or related basic science, but a terminal degree is preferred.  The position will report to the Division Head of Healthcare Professions.

    Adjunct: ACCESS (Adult Studies) — Multiple Disciplines Needed

    The ACCESS program seeks to maintain a qualified faculty pool for the following disciplines:

    • Accounting (financial accounting, managerial accounting, federal income taxation, corporate financial reporting, and regulation)
    • Healthcare Administration
    • Information Technology
    • Psychology (social psychology, psychobiology, human development, counseling psychology, research design and analysis)

    Teaching formats are online and on-campus/hybrid courses. A Master's degree in the appropriate discipline is required; teaching experience using technology (Blackboard) preferred.

Medical Plans

DeSales University offers a choice of medical plans through Capital Blue Cross: PPO Blue Plan with a deductible ($500/$1000 maximum per family deductible), and a Qualified High Deductible Health Plan (QHDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) option. The University contributes various dollar amounts toward health care premiums. Coverage is available the first of the month after a full-time employee's date of hire.

According to the DeSales University Spousal Coordination of Benefits Policy, Spouses of employees are ineligible for University coverage in any health care insurance plan if such spouse is eligible for coverage at his/her place of employment.

Life Insurance

DeSales University provides group term life insurance to all full-time employees. The amount of this policy is equal to 1.5 times the employee's annual salary to a maximum of $250,000 (amount reduces after age 70). Employees complete an initial beneficiary designation upon hire and may update it at any time.

Dental Plan

DeSales University offers dental insurance through United Concordia. The employee pays the entire premium for dental care.

Retirement Plans

Regular and group supplemental retirement plans are offered through TIAA. Participation may begin on the first day of the month following employment. After one year of service, the University will contribute 4% with a minimum employee contribution of 2%. Investment options include annuity; bond fund; equity index fund; global fund; real estate fund; growth fund; money market; social choice or stock fund.

Flexible Spending Plan

DeSales University offers employees the option to participate in a flexible spending account (FSA) through Payflex. This plan permits employees to pay for certain health care and day care expenses before-tax dollars. Contact human resources for complete details. The plan allows current participants to monitor and administer their plan through the Payflex website.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

DeSales University provides a group long-term disability (LTD) policy for all full-time employees on the first day of the month following one year of continuous service. The University pays the entire LTD premium to the carrier.

Effective immediately and in accordance with Pennsylvania Act 153, all new faculty and staff at DeSales University whose position with the University has been determined to potentially have direct contact or routine interaction with individuals under 18 years of age must successfully complete a background check, including a Criminal History Report from the Pennsylvania State Police, a Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services and a fingerprint, based criminal history submitted through the FBI as a condition of employment.
