  • Adjunct: Biology – Anatomy and Physiology

    The Department of Natural Science at DeSales University is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach Anatomy and Physiology lecture and laboratory in the ACCESS Program for the 2018-2019 Academic Year.   • Adjunct: Digital Art

    The Department of Mathematics/Computer Science is seeking applications for an adjunct instructor to teach course(s) in Digital Art for the 2018-2019 Academic Year. 

    Responsibilities include teaching traditional day courses at the DeSales University main campus in Center Valley, PA.

    The digital art adjunct will teach about story development, creating storyboards and animatics for introductory students. 

    Additional teaching opportunities may be available for candidates with knowledge of Graphic Design (Adobe Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, and InDesign CC) and/or Web Design (HTML5 and CSS3, WordPress or Dreamweaver CC). 

    Candidates must have at least a Master’s degree and previous teaching experience is preferred.

  • Assistant Professor: Catholic Theology

    DESALES UNIVERSITY, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Catholic Theology to begin Fall, 2019.   • Assistant Professor: Composition & Rhetoric

    The Department of Humanities at DeSales University seeks applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in the area of Composition & Rhetoric to begin in August of 2019. Although this is a non-tenure position, the successful applicants can take advantage of our generous long-term contracts with the possibility of conversion to a tenure track position in the distant future. Applicants should have a PhD in English with formal and extensive training in composition and rhetoric or a PhD in Composition and Rhetoric; additional teaching and publishing experience in creative writing is welcome.

    Responsibilities include teaching in the undergraduate writing sequence, participation in service to the department and University, and ongoing professional development and scholarship. In particular, this position includes the coordination, management, and assessment of the undergraduate writing sequence as part of the institution’s general education curriculum.

  • Assistant Professor: Computer Science

    The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at DeSales University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Computer Science. Strong candidates with a PhD (ABD considered) from any area within computer science, mathematics and related fields will be considered.

    The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with three specialized tracks (Game Programming, Digital Arts, and Cyber Security). Ideal candidates should be able to teach a variety of undergraduate courses within the major. The department seeks to add data analytics/sciences courses to its curriculum so preference will be given to those candidates with teaching or research experience in these areas.

  • Assistant Professor: Philosophy

    DESALES UNIVERSITY, a Roman Catholic University in the Salesian tradition, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Philosophy to begin Fall, 2019. AOS: Medieval Philosophy, especially St. Thomas Aquinas; AOC: Ancient Philosophy. As a member of a small department, the applicant will have an opportunity to teach a wide variety of upper-level courses in both historical and systematic philosophy.

    A Ph.D. and college teaching experience preferred, but we will consider qualified ABD’s. Duties include teaching four courses per semester, which may include multiple sections of the University’s required introductory philosophy course, some committee work, and an active program of scholarship.

  • Assistant Professor: TV/Film

    DeSales University’s Division of Performing Arts seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of TV/Film, with a focus on documentary production and post-production. The position requires candidates with MFA in film production, or a terminal degree in a directly related field. Candidates should also possess a wide skill-set and a recognized body of work as a filmmaker, and demonstrate a successful record of undergraduate teaching experience. This position is a nine-month appointment with possibility of summer employment with the DeSales Summer Video Institute.

    Responsibilities include teaching four courses per semester in the following areas: documentary filmmaking (history, theory, and practice), basic film/video production, media literacy and ethics, film history and analysis, and editing/post-production. The position also involves academic advising of TV/Film majors, and service to the university. Additional job requirements: Proficiency in Adobe Premiere CC and experience with Avid Media Composer is required. Proficiency in other Adobe CC software – particularly After Effects, Audition, and Illustrator – is highly desirable.

    DeSales University has the leading film school in the region, with approximately 75 majors and four full-time and two regular part-time faculty. The TV/Film Department is committed to helping our students produce compelling works of digital cinema with exceptional aesthetic and production values, to tell meaningful stories that matter to our community and the world. The department produces an annual juried film festival, and co-produces annually with the Dance Department a 48-hour dance-on-camera competition and film festival. There is ample opportunity for further collaboration with the Theatre and Dance departments within the Division of Performing Arts. Appointment to begin August 2019.

Medical Plans

DeSales University offers a choice of medical plans through Highmark: PPO Blue Plan (zero deductible), PPO Blue Plan with a deductible ($500/$1500 maximum per family deductible). The University contributes various dollar amounts toward health care premiums. Coverage is available the first of the month after a full-time employee’s date of hire. 

According to the DeSales University Spousal Coordination of Benefits Policy, Spouses of employees are ineligible for University coverage in any health care insurance plan if such spouse is eligible for coverage at his/her place of employment.

Life Insurance

DeSales University provides group term life insurance to all full-time employees. The amount of this policy is equal to 1.5 times the employee's annual salary to a maximum of $250,000 (amount reduces after age 70). Employees complete an initial beneficiary designation upon hire and may update it at any time.

Dental Plan

DeSales University offers dental insurance through United Concordia. The employee pays the entire premium for dental care.

Retirement Plans

Regular and group supplemental retirement plans are offered through TIAA-CREF. Participation may begin on the first day of the month following employment. After one year of service, the University will contribute 8% with a minimum employee contribution of 4%. Investment options include annuity; bond fund; equity index fund; global fund; real estate fund; growth fund; money market; social choice or stock fund.

Flexible Spending Plan

DeSales University offers employees the option to participate in a flexible spending account (FSA) through Payflex. This plan permits employees to pay for certain health care and day care expenses before-tax dollars. Contact human resources for complete details. The plan allows current participants to monitor and administer their plan through the Payflex website.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

DeSales University provides a group long-term disability (LTD) policy for all full-time employees on the first day of the month following one year of continuous service. The University pays the entire LTD premium to the carrier. 

Tuition Benefits

DeSales University offers tuition remission benefits as well as tuition exchange and CIC scholarship opportunities.

Athletic Facilities are available to staff members for their use at times when the facilities are not being used by the University or by authorized rentals. Spouses of employees are also eligible.

Effective immediately and in accordance with Pennsylvania Act 153, all new faculty and staff at DeSales University whose position with the University has been determined to potentially have direct contact or routine interaction with individuals under 18 years of age must successfully complete a background check, including a Criminal History Report from the Pennsylvania State Police, a Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services and a fingerprint, based criminal history submitted through the FBI as a condition of employment. Additional background checks may be required based on the specific requirements of the position.
