Medical Plans

DeSales University offers a choice of medical plans through Capital Blue Cross: PPO Blue Plan with a deductible ($500/$1000 maximum per family deductible), and a Qualified High Deductible Health Plan (QHDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) option. The University contributes various dollar amounts toward health care premiums. Coverage is available the first of the month after a full-time employee's date of hire.

According to the DeSales University Spousal Coordination of Benefits Policy, Spouses of employees are ineligible for University coverage in any health care insurance plan if such spouse is eligible for coverage at his/her place of employment.

On October 29, 2020, the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and the Treasury finalized proposed rules regarding transparency requirements for non-grandfathered group health plans. DeSales University sponsors a self-funded medical plan. Capital Blue Cross (CBC) provides DeSales University with a Uniform Resources Locator where machine-readable files ("MRF's") for the plan will be posted publicly and updated monthly in order to view in-network provider rates for covered items and services and out-of-network allowed amounts and billed charges for covered items and services. DeSales University has added this link to its public-facing website.
