Online Healthcare Prerequisite Courses

DeSales offers online courses that are required prerequisites for health-based professional programs at many colleges and universities.

You are welcome to take these courses even if you plan to attend a program at a different university or college. Please check with the specific program and/or university to which you are applying to make sure online courses are accepted for transfer. 

Winter 2019

  • PS109 Introduction to Psychology, 3 credits (3 weeks: December 22, 2018 to January 12, 2019)
  • PS240 Human Development, 3 credits (3 weeks: December 22, 2017 to January 12, 2019) 

 Spring 2019

  • BI155 Microbiology, 4 credits (12 weeks: January 14 to April 6, 2019)
  • BI265 Anatomy and Physiology I, 4 credits (12 weeks: January 14 to April 6, 2019)

BI-155 Microbiology (online)
Credits: 4.00  Prerequisites: BI-151, CH-104 or CH-107 or CH-108  Not open to students that have taken BI-254.
The biology of microorganisms.  Emphasis is on morphology,  physiology, biochemistry, role in disease and classification of microorganisms (especially bacteria).  Online laboratories and/or at-home laboratory kits emphasizes aseptic technique in the observation and characterization of microorganisms.  Lab fee. Lab kit fee. 

BI-265 Anatomy and Physiology I (online)
Credits: 4.00  Prerequisites: none
First of a two online course sequence studying the structure and function of the human body.  This course studies cells and tissues followed by a study of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems.  A series of online laboratories support the learning of course concepts.  Not open to students who have completed BI-355/356. Lab fee.

BI-266 Anatomy & Physiology II (online)
Credits: 4.00  Prerequisites: BI-263 or BI-265
A continuation of BI-265.  This online course studies the special senses, followed by the study of the endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems.  A series of online laboratories support the learning of course concepts.  Lab fee. 

CH-108 Physiological Chemistry (online)
Credits: 5.00  Prerequisites: none
Preparation for the study of the molecular basis of life.  General, organic and biochemical topics will be presented.  Topics include the structures and properties of atoms and molecules, organic structure and functional groups, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acid biochemistry. Online laboratories and/or at-home laboratory kits reinforce course material. Lab fee. Lab kit fee.
