Health and wellness are key values of Character U, a program that aims to help first-year students thrive.

That’s why they hosted a special program on Trauma Healing and Self Care this spring.

“This discussion was for first-year students who wanted to better understand trauma and how to take steps toward healing from the scars of our past,” said Abigail Vernon ‘24, Character U captain and theatre major.

The event featured guest speakers from a local nonprofit organization, the Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley. The organization is committed to providing unbiased assistance and resources provided to those affected by violence.

Over the course of an hour, first-year students learned how to better understand trauma and discussed the best ways to work toward healing and improving self-care practices. One of these ways is to understand your rights in relationships and establish mutual respect and power.
