The Wellness Center is giving the campus community extra incentive to get a flu shot this year.

The center is holding a free Flu Shot Clinic for students, faculty, and staff from Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 30. The clinic—part of the University’s No Flu DSU campaign—is being held in the tent in the Dorothy Day Student Union parking lot.

Members of PACE (Peers Advising Counseling Educating), including Abby Estrada ’23, are joining the effort to encourage students to roll up their sleeves. They’ve recorded a short video called a PACEmeal on their Instagram page educating students about the importance of a flu shot.

“In getting a flu vaccine, you’re not only protecting yourself from the flu, but you’re helping health professionals rule out whether potential symptoms are COVID-19 related or flu related,” says Estrada. “Even if you are hesitant about getting a flu shot, know the positive impact it will have on the DeSales community by helping to prevent the spread of the flu and helping wellness staff discern symptoms.”

Participants will be entered into a drawing to win prizes. Students can take home a Toshiba 43-inch Smart TV, an Outdoor Movie Wifi Mini Projector and Synchronized Smart Phone Screen, an Apple Watch Series 3, or a Hydro Flask water bottle. Employees are eligible to win a Vizio 50-inch Smart LED TV, a YETI Roadie 24 Cooler, an Apple Watch Series 3, or a Hydro Flask water bottle.

This year’s heightened campaign comes as the CDC warns that COVID-19 will overlap with the traditional flu season. Here in Pennsylvania, health officials say the fall resurgence is upon us, with cases climbing particularly among 13 to 18 year olds.
