Giving Tuesday Now Donations to Support DeSales Emergency Relief Fund

by Janelle Hill May 5, 2020

DeSales University is taking part in the global day of giving and unity by supporting its students.

All the money raised during Giving Tuesday Now on May 5 will support the DeSales Emergency Relief Fund, a new philanthropic initiative to stand in solidarity with students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund—designed to help undergraduate, graduate, and professional students navigate financial hardships caused by the crisis—has raised more than $67,000 of its $100,000 goal.

“This Giving Tuesday Now is a great opportunity to give the DeSales Emergency Relief Fund additional exposure when our national spotlight is focused on philanthropy and the people and programs meaningful to them,” says Cheryl Murphy, vice president for institutional advancement. “Giving Tuesday Now is all about COVID-19 relief opportunities, and we wanted to be sure that we were in that space and putting our students front and center.”

Donors can also take part in the inaugural DeSales University Virtual 5K and 1 Mile Walk now through May 19. Registration costs $20 and participants will receive a DeSales Virtual 5K bib. The event has no restrictions, so participants can run or walk outside or indoors on a treadmill. They can use the Strava app to track their time, and they’re encouraged to share photos on social media using the hashtag #DeSalesVirtual5k.
