Physician Assistant Alum Describes Burn Care in Sub-Saharan Africa
Jennifer Wall ’99, M’00 returned to campus to give physician assistant students an up close and personal look at running a long-term medical mission.
Wall is the president, CEO, and founder of Africa Burn Relief, a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of burn care in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“I really want to show you the struggles of working and starting a non-profit, there’s a lot of headache associated with it. There’s a lot of struggle to it.”
Wall described the successes and challenges of working in Malawi, where 80 percent of the population lives rurally and where burns are a part of everyday life.
She told students that even though physician assistants can have a hard time finding a niche in international work, there are career paths beyond general practice.
