Terry Gross to Participate in Marcon Lecture

DeSales University will welcome award-winning journalist and National Public Radio host Terry Gross to campus as part of the 33rd Frank L. Marcon Lecture. 

Gross, longtime host and executive producer of “Fresh Air,” will take part in a conversation with Patrick Mulcahy, professor of theatre, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. in Billera Hall. The event is free and open to the public with registration. 

Gross began her radio career in 1973 in Buffalo, New York, before joining WHYY-FM in Philadelphia as producer and host of “Fresh Air,” then a local, daily interview and music program. 

In 1985, WHYY launched a weekly half-hour edition of “Fresh Air with Terry Gross,” which was distributed nationally by NPR. Since 1987, Gross has hosted a daily, one-hour national edition and interviewed thousands of guests. The program is broadcast on nearly 600 stations and became the first non-drive-time show in public radio history to reach more than five million listeners a week. 

“Fresh Air with Terry Gross” received the Peabody Award in 1993 and the Peabody Institutional Award in 2022. Gross has also received a number of awards throughout her career, including a Gracie Award in the category of Outstanding Radio Personality from American Women in Radio and Television and the Edward R. Murrow Award for her “outstanding contributions to public radio.” She is also the author of “All I Did Was Ask: Conversations with Writers, Actors, Musicians and Artists.”  

The Marcon Lecture series is named in memory of Frank L. Marcon, a prominent area businessman who served as a DeSales University trustee from 1966 until his death in 1982.
