Dr. Francis C. Mayville teaches undergraduate students in the Organic Chemistry and Health Science Chemistry courses at DeSales University. He received his undergraduate education in chemistry at the State University of New York (BS). His graduate work at Clarkson University (MS) and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (Ph.D.) led him to pursue his academic interests in green organic and natural product chemistry. He did post-doctoral teaching and research at the University of the Sciences for a year before joining the faculty at DeSales University in August 2000. His love for teaching also leads him to mentor undergraduate student research and he is currently working with students on projects studying green organic synthesis, organic synthesis of new anti-cancer drugs, extraction of natural products, and pharmacokinetics of controlled released drugs.

He and his family live in the Lehigh Valley, but his love for hiking and camping in his native northern New York calls him back for frequent visits. When not in the classroom or the laboratory, Dr. Mayville is often pursuing another of his gifts - writing and performing music. He is a talented songwriter, guitarist, and percussionist who enjoys the opportunity to exercise the right side of his brain as well as the left!
