Daniel Mayo is originally from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance in 2007 from The Juilliard School in New York City under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes. With the Juilliard Dance Ensemble, Daniel performed works by choreographers including William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, and José Limón. He also worked directly with choreographers such as Jessica Lang, Aszure Barton, Eliot Feld, Larry Keigwin, and Bennyroyce Royon, among others.

Upon his graduation in 2007, Daniel joined Atlanta Ballet under the direction of John McFall as a company dancer where he performed until 2010. While at Atlanta Ballet, he performed many classical roles as well as contemporary works. Daniel performed in works by notable choreographers including Twyla Tharp, Michael Pink, Lila York, and John McFall. He also directly participated in creation processes and world premiers with choreographers such as Victor Quijada, Darrell Grand Moultrie, and Lauri Stallings in her full length collaboration with Big Boi from Outkast titled BIG.

Daniel departed Atlanta Ballet in 2010 to join the Montreal based company RUBBERBANDance Group under the direction of Victor Quijada where he performed until 2014. During his 4 years with RUBBERBANDance Group, Daniel toured throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, and participated in multiple film projects, most notably for BravoFACT Canada and in the film adaptation of Victor Quijada’s Gravity Of Center which won multiple awards and was shown on Air Canada in-flight entertainment systems worldwide.

From 2014 until 2018, Daniel danced with the Philadelphia based contemporary ballet company BalletX under the direction of Christine Cox. With BalletX, Daniel performed in many world premiers both in Philadelphia and throughout the United States. He worked directly with choreographers Matthew Neenan, Jorma Elo, Cayetano Soto, Trey McIntyre, and Nicolo Fonte, to name a few. Daniel was a performer in the Vail International Dance Festival under the direction of Damian Woetzel from 2014 until 2018, and performed alongside artists such as James Whiteside, Tiler Peck, Michelle Dorrance, and Herman Cornejo.

Over the years, Daniel has performed as a guest artist with The Atlanta Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Dance Grand Moultrie, and Bennyroyce Dance. Since his retirement from full time performing in 2018, Daniel has served as a guest artist, educator and choreographer throughout the United States. He served as adjunct faculty at Western Wyoming Community College, and is currently lead faculty for the full scholarship boys’ program MET MEN at Metropolitan Ballet Academy in Jenkintown, PA.
