Martin Brett, Ph.D.
Associate Professor; Department Chair, Sport Management
Dr. Brett is an associate professor of sport management at DeSales University. Prior to joining the Division of Business at DeSales, he earned a Ph.D. and MA from The Ohio State University in sport and exercise management. Dr. Brett is also a graduate of DeSales University with a BA in politics, and a former admissions counselor for the Office of Enrollment Management.
Aside from his experience as a collegiate soccer player, Dr. Brett has worked in event management with MSG Promotions Inc. (2014 & 2008 U.S. Open and 2009 U.S. Women’s Open & 2008 U.S. Open), the Columbus Crew and Crew Stadium (the first soccer specific stadium built in the U.S.), grass-roots marketing, and event management with national 3v3 basketball and soccer tours, collegiate athletic operations, event marketing (GMC-Pontiac), and media relations for Nationwide Arena.
Dr. Brett's research interests include:
Utilizing qualitative research methodologies and grounded theory to identify and analyze student-athlete perceptions of the NCAA
The relationship between off-field problems and managerial response on fan identification
Outside of the University, Dr. Brett enjoys a variety of activities including soccer, downhill skiing, hiking, reading, and supporting his favorite sports teams. He resides in Easton, PA with his wife, Christine, and son, Shea.
