reelOccasionally, the Salesian Center for Faith & Culture sponsors special movie events to generate discussions on a particular topic of interest.  

Each film will be shown in the ** GAMBET CENTER AUDITORIUM on the dates listed below at 7:00 p.m. (** unless otherwise noted)

February 15, 2018 movie promo - The ShackBased on the NEW YORK TIMES best-selling novel, THE SHACK takes us on a father's uplifting spiritual journey. After suffering a family tragedy

April 19, 2018 movie promo -  Molokai, The Story of Father Damien: The true story of the 19th century priest who volunteered to go to the island of Molokai, to console and care for the lepers

FALL 2018

October (date TBA) - Loving -  a 2016 British-American historical drama film which tells the story of Richard and Mildred Loving, the plaintiffs in the 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia, which invalidated state laws prohibiting interracial marriage

November (date TBA) - Collateral Beauty - Retreating from life after a tragedy, a man questions the universe by writing to Love, Time and Death. Receiving unexpected answers, he begins to see how these things interlock and how even loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.


February (date TBA) - Life for Life - Auschwitz, 1941. One of the prisoners, Jan, escapes from the German concentration camp while working at a gravel pit. Thanks to the help of good-hearted people he finds shelter. There Jan hears tragic news about ten random inmates sentenced to death by starvation by the Nazis as a punishment for his escape. One among the convicts is Fr. Maximillian Kolbe, a Franciscan priest who volunteered to die in place of one of the inmates.

April (date TBA) - Gifted - The plot follows an intellectually gifted 7-year-old who becomes the subject of a custody battle between her uncle and grandmother.

This annual lecture series is designed to offer the public a humanistic viewpoint on an issue of national prominence. The topic of discussion for this event will be The attractive beauty of holiness: the influence of St. Francis de Sales in the married  spirituality of Elisabeth Leseur. FR. THOMAS KEVIN KRAFT, OP, Friar of the Province of Saint Joseph USA, currently assigned to Saint Dominic's House, Nairobi, Kenya is our featured speaker.
