A video recap of the 2015 Dinner Dance
As part of its 50th Anniversary year, DeSales University will host the 35th annual dinner dance, The Golden Gala, on March 19 in Billera Hall. Cocktail hour will begin at 7 p.m., a gourmet dinner will follow at 8 p.m. and dancing until midnight will conclude the evening. Admission is $225 per person.
According to regular attendees, it’s one of the area’s most anticipated annual events and more than 850 people are expected to attend. As the university’s major event-based fundraiser, 100 percent of the evening’s income, about $150,000 annually, goes directly into financial aid for DeSales students, 97 percent of whom receive some form of financial assistance.
Chairpersons of the event are Chuck and Marty McIntyre and they will be joined by area business, professional and community leaders as well as DeSales alumni, who are sponsoring tables or providing contributions. The McIntyres are also celebrating 50 years of marriage this year.
During the reception, guests will enjoy assorted hors’ doeuvres and a full bar. The dinner will consist of jumbo shrimp cocktail martini, carved herb encrusted beef tenderloin with Bordelaise sauce and sea bass with jumbo lump crab meat, smoked gouda and scallion smashed potatoes, and asparagus bundles.
A special presentation of gold and dark chocolate cups, filled with raspberry Chambord mousse and finished with Godiva chocolate sauce, garnished with fresh raspberries and a custom 50th Anniversary chocolate, will be served for dessert.
Will Neuert, associate professor of theatre, created the decorations for the Golden Gala-themed dance as he has for the past 18 years. Neuert’s decorations this year are inspired by the University’s 50th Anniversary. The room will be draped with swags of rich golden and aubergine fabric. Two immense sparkling chandeliers, which were designed and built by several DSU theatre design students, and five rotating mirror showers illuminate the tables and dance floor.
An eight foot wide gold leaf seal of the University hangs between tall tied back draperies of gold and amongst thousands of twinkling lights as a backdrop to the stage. Glittering gold overlays and a special ice sculpture commemorate the University’s Golden Anniversary.
Music for dancing will be provided by The Rich Postmontier Ensemble.
