by Tom McNamara | Apr 03, 2012

The DeSales University Chemistry Program will present the 11th Annual Chemistry Demonstrations Program on Friday, April 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the Hurd Auditorium, located in the Hurd Science Center.

The event is free and open to the public but because seating is limited, reservations are required. Please call Ms. Renee Fair at 610.282.1100, ext. 1386, or email her at renee.fair@desales.edu for reservations.

The DeSales faculty and students who participate in the Chemistry Demonstrations Program seek to instill elementary, middle and high school students with a love of science. The demonstrations combine chemical concepts with humor and music to present over a dozen highly visual and entertaining experiments that are a treat for all the senses.

The purpose of the Chemistry Demonstrations Program is to provide elementary, middle and high school students with the opportunity to increase their appreciation of the importance of science, and in particular, to enrich their understanding of chemistry.

Students from North East Middle School, MacKinnon Middle School, Belvidere High School, Whitehall High School, Pen Argyl High School, Southern Lehigh High School, Parkland High School, Hamburg Middle School, Nazareth High School and SS Peter and Paul Middle School attended performances this academic year. The program is seen by approximately 500 middle and high school students each semester.

The Chemistry Demonstrations Program is directed by Dr. Rodger Berg, associate professor, coordinator of chemistry, chairperson of DeSales University’s natural science department and head of DeSales University’s natural science and healthcare division. He is assisted by Dr. Julie Aaron, assistant professor; Ms. Sara Hayik, assistant professor; Dr. Francis Mayville, associate professor of chemistry; and Mrs. Patricia Hartman, chemistry laboratory manager.
