Transfer Student FAQs

• How long will it take to earn my degree at DSU?

  All degrees at DeSales University require a minimum of 40 three-credit courses to complete. Certain programs have additional requirements. Students must complete a minimum of 15 courses at DSU (5 of those courses must be within the major) in order to earn a DSU degree.
  
  

• Are ACT/SAT scores required to complete my application?

  SAT/ACT scores will only be requested if you have graduated from high school less than 1 year from the date of your application to DSU.

  
  

• How many credits do I need before I transfer to DeSales University?

  There is no minimum requirement of credits. You can transfer to DeSales at any point.
  
  

• What academic support services are available at DeSales?

  At DSU's Academic Resource Center, you can receive tutoring services from professional and peer tutors in a variety of subject areas. Professional tutoring services are available in the areas of Math, Science, and reading comprehension/written expression. Furthermore, students with documented physical, psychological, and/ or learning disabilities may request accommodations through the Coordinator of Learning and Disabilities Services.
  
  

• Can I have a car on campus? How much does the parking permit cost?

  Yes, you can have a car. And the parking permit is free - but you do need to register with the DeSales Police Department Parking Authority. 

  
  

• I was accepted to DeSales, but I want to defer my admissions. How can I do this?

  First, let the Admissions Department know you'd like to defer your admission. Depending on the program that you were accepted to, you may or may not be able to defer your acceptance. Depending on whether or not you completed additional credits since your original acceptance to DeSales, you may need to submit updated transcripts. Overall, deferring admissions is handled on an individual basis, so it is best to contact your transfer counselor.
  
  

• I'm an international student. Do I need to provide any supplemental documents to complete my application?

• What are the admissions criteria for Education majors?

  The minimum GPA required to be considered for the Education program is a 3.0. However, if you have anything above a 2.5, you can be considered for the undeclared major. If you spend a year as a full-time DSU student and maintain a 3.0 GPA, then you can attempt to transfer into the Education program.

• What are the admissions criteria for the Nursing program?

  The minimum GPA required to be considered for the nursing program is a 2.8. You must complete Anatomy & Physiology I and II to begin the Nursing curriculum. No matter how many credits transfer into DSU, the program will take 3 years to complete (3.5 years if you start in the Spring and 4 years if you haven't completed Anatomy & Physiology I and II w/lab). 

  Be sure to apply by November 1 for the Spring semester and March 1 for the Fall semester. The Nursing Admissions Committee meets the first week of December for Spring applicants and the first week of April for Fall applicants. Decisions will be made based on space availability and the limited spaces available will be awarded to the most academically qualified candidates.
  
  

• What are the admissions criteria for Physician Assistant majors?

  The minimum GPA required to be considered for the Physician Assistant program is a 3.0. Once you are accepted to the college, you must be interviewed by a Physician Assistant faculty member. The Physician Assistant Admissions Committee decides which students will be accepted to the program. You are strongly encouraged to complete your application as soon as possible, since the limited spaces available are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to the most academically qualified applicants.
  
  

• What are the admissions criteria for Theatre and Dance majors?

  The minimum GPA required to be considered for the Theatre/Dance program is a 2.5. Once you are accepted to the university, you must audition. Once a you audition, you will be informed of the acceptance decision to the Theatre or Dance program.
