Nursing: Traditional Day
Undergraduate Program

Begin taking nursing courses in the first semester of your sophomore year as you prepare for your career in nursing.

Extensive clinical and laboratory experience is an important part of the curriculum, and you'll practice at local hospitals, nursing homes, and outpatient clinical facilities. You'll be guaranteed quality clinical placement in all subspecialties, including medical-surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatry, acute care, and community health. Your senior year culminates in a capstone clinical and classroom experience where you'll manage a patient caseload under the supervision of a preceptor and present case studies for peer critique. Seniors who carry a 3.0 grade point average or better are eligible to enroll in one graduate course.

Bridging the Gap: Nursing & Medical Studies (PA) Students Help Local Communities

by Janelle Hill | Oct 02, 2017

For the ninth year in a row, students from DeSales University spent their summer helping those in need with the Bridging the Gaps Community Health Internship (BTG).

Nursing and medical studies (undergraduates in the physician assistant program) students partnered with the Lehigh Valley Health Network Department of Education and six community agencies. They designed and implemented projects on a variety of topics, including heart health, oral health, end-of-life care assessments, smoking cessation, and health literacy.

Students also took part in a day of service at the Second Harvest Food Bank, assembling more than 1,000 boxes of food. The internship ended with two professional poster symposiums, one of which was held on the DeSales campus.

BTG is a paid community-based summer internship program that helps students in the health and social services fields gain a broader understanding of the factors that affect health in underserved, economically disadvantaged communities.
