The DeSales University Division of Performing Arts is pleased to announce the annual Spring Choral Concert to be presented at 8 PM on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. The free event, under the direction of J. Bennett Durham, will be performed in the Connelly Chapel on the campus of DeSales University.
“There’s something about the great rebirth of the spring season,” says John Bell, division head of performing arts. “The snows thaw, the daffodils and tulips begin to push up through the earth, the temperatures warm and all across campus students appear without their heavy layers of jackets, mittens and hats. It’s such a marvelous time of rejuvenation. As students busy themselves in preparation for the end of the semester and the seniors prepare for graduation, the spring choral concert gives us all a chance to pause and reflect on our many fortunes.”
This year’s concert, entitled “Sing Me to Heaven,” will feature the talents of the DeSales University Chorale and Schola Cantorum singing contemporary selections by composers including Gawthrop, Stroope, Ticheli, Wilberg, and more. “The music of this concert takes us on a journey through different expressions of human experience and emotion: joy and faith, comfort and devotion, pain and healing, hope and vitality,” says director J. Bennett Durham. “With traditional folk hymns, lullabies and love songs, and original songs influenced by diverse cultures, the music of this program is sure to engage, uplift and inspire.”
Admission to the concert is free; however, tickets are required. To reserve tickets, please call the Box Office at 610-282-3192 or order online at www.desales.edu/act1.
