The Healthcare Simulation Specialist (HSS) works with the Director of Healthcare Simulation (DHS) to coordinate the daily operation of the Clinical Simulation Education Center (CSEC) and clinical skills laboratories. A new CSEC consisting of 5 simulation rooms equipped with high, moderate, and low level fidelity mannequins and a suite of 8 standardized patient rooms, opened in the Spring of 2013. She/he assists the didactic and clinical faculty in scheduling, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of healthcare simulation and clinical laboratory skills offerings. Functions include clinical simulation learning activities deemed necessary by all didactic and clinical faculty to attain successful achievement of student learning outcomes. This is a full-time, 12 month, non-tenure track faculty position with 20 days of paid vacation each year.
DeSales University presently offers three levels of nursing education (B.S.N., M.S.N., and D.N.P.) as well as a Physician Assistant Program (M.S.P.A.S.). A new Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) is in development. The HSS schedules, plans, and executes all activities of the medical simulation program. She/he coordinates the general operations of the CSEC and clinical skills laboratories. She/he monitors and evaluates the simulated patient case scenarios and reports aggregated findings to the DHS. Ongoing collaboration between didactic and clinical faculty and the HSS ensures program reliability and validity. Skills validation activities are provided for the purpose of evaluating student clinical proficiencies. Remediation activities are delivered as coordinated between the HSS and course faculty.
The HSS supervises upkeep of all clinical equipment ensures the vitality of the high, moderate, and low fidelity mannequins that are utilized heavily among all medical education programs. The HSS will develop proficiency in all technical aspects of interprofessional simulation.
Minimum master’s degree (e.g. M.S.N., M.S.P.A.S., M.Ed.) with experience in healthcare simulation. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications.
