Director's Message
September 2010
Dear Friends:
The Labor Day holiday is not only one last gasp of Summer; it's a reminder to all of us that work, at its core, is about being fully human, about that fundamental activity that creates and advances our culture. In whatever form it takes, that labor also shapes us into who we are.
Our work here at the Salesian Center does take a variety of forms: from educational initiatives to dialogue opportunities and in partnership ventures. (View our continuously updated ► calendar on this web site to see what is happening and when.)
In all these, we seek to bring about that engagement of faith and culture that demonstrates how what we believe informs what we do and, in turn, leads us to become who we are. In essence, our programs and activities try to fulfill what the late Pope John Paul II once wrote about labor, which he deemed "a good thing for man – a good thing for his humanity – because through work he not only transforms nature, adapting it to his own needs, but he also achieves fulfillment as a human being and indeed, in a sense, becomes ‘more a human being',"
We invite you to join in our work ... by ► supporting us financially, however much you can, but also by participating in our many public events, whenever you can. Here at the Salesian Center, you're always welcome!
Fr. Thomas Dailey, OSFS
Director

"A specific priority is the need to examine the predominant values and norms of modern society and culture in a Christian perspective, and the responsibility to try to communicate to society those ethical and religious principles which give full meaning to human life."
- Pope John Paul II
