New Online Counseling Psychology Program Expands DeSales Graduate Healthcare Offerings

DeSales University is expanding its graduate offerings with the launch of a new Master of Science in Clinical and Counseling Psychology, a fully online degree program designed to prepare students for careers in professional counseling. The inaugural cohort will begin classes on July 1, 2027.

The 60-credit program combines academic coursework with supervised clinical training, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Offered in a flexible online format, the program can be completed in just over two years, making it an attractive option for working professionals and adult learners seeking to advance their careers.

"As the demand for qualified mental health professionals continues to grow, DeSales University is committed to preparing compassionate and highly skilled counselors who can make a meaningful impact in their communities," said Dr. Mike Ducey, dean of the College of Sciences. "The launch of the M.S. in Clinical and Counseling Psychology represents a significant expansion of the DeSales healthcare portfolio and strengthens the University's position as a leader in educating healthcare professionals. This program addresses the growing need for mental health services while providing students with a flexible, high-quality pathway to a rewarding career in professional counseling."

Developed in response to the increasing need for accessible mental health care, the program emphasizes evidence-based counseling practices, ethical decision-making, human development, assessment, and multicultural counseling. Graduates will be prepared to work with diverse populations in a variety of settings, including community agencies, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, and clinical environments.

“The Department of Psychology at DeSales University views the Master of Science in Clinical and Counseling Psychology as a natural progression of its robust undergraduate curriculum,” said Dr. Boyce Jubilan, DVM, MPhil, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Psychology Department. Grounded in the Salesian values of gentleness, humility, gratitude, hospitality, and wisdom, the program pairs evidence-based practice with compassionate care and deep respect for the lived experiences of diverse clients.”

Through a blend of engaging online coursework, faculty mentorship, and supervised field experiences, students will gain practical experience while developing the professional competencies needed to support individuals, families, and communities facing a wide range of mental health challenges.

The program is designed to meet Pennsylvania's educational requirements for LPC licensure and reflects DeSales University's commitment to addressing critical workforce needs in the behavioral health field.
