DeSales University Awards 2026 President’s Medal to Robert “Bobby” Dingell

At DeSales University’s 2026 Commencement ceremony on May 10, the spirit of achievement and service was on full display as Robert “Bobby” Dingell stepped forward to receive the University’s President’s Medal.

Awarded to a graduate who exemplifies intellectual maturity, personal growth, and a life guided by the principles of Catholic teaching, the President’s Medal recognizes more than academic success. It honors a student whose presence has shaped the community in lasting ways.

“The DeSales community has given me so much in my time as an undergraduate. To achieve this prestigious award at the end of these four years means the world to me,” said Dingell. “I am so thankful for all the relationships I’ve built and the mentors I have had; without them, achieving this award would not have been possible. DeSales, in my opinion, is an absolute hidden gem, not just in the Lehigh Valley, but in the country,” he continued. “I am so grateful God led me to college here.”

For Bobby, a native of Reston, Virginia, the journey to this moment was defined by both excellence and engagement. Graduating cum laude from the Waterbury Reilly School of Business with degrees in Marketing and Data Analytics, he balanced rigorous academic work with an engaged and active sports and campus life. Whether on the baseball field or participating in campus events, Bobby was a constant and enthusiastic presence, someone who didn’t just attend DeSales, but helped bring its community to life.

His contributions extended beyond the classroom and the field. Through servant leadership, Bobby set an example to his fellow classmates and embodied the University’s mission, demonstrating a commitment to ensuring others feel seen, supported, and a valued part of something larger than themselves.

Bobby’s impact extends far beyond his accomplishments. His story is one of growth, connection, and purpose that defines a DeSales graduate for future years to come.

“Bobby Dingell embodies the very spirit of the President’s Medal: intellectual excellence, humble leadership, and a genuine care for others,” said DeSales University President, Rev. James Greenfield, OSFS ‘84. “In the classroom, on the field, and across campus, he has lived our Salesian call to "be who you are and be that well."  We are profoundly grateful for the gifts he has shared with our community and confident that he will do great things as one of our newest alums!”

Congratulations, Bobby. The DeSales community is immensely proud of you!
