Luz Pomaquiza Awarded Prestigious Provincial Medal of Honor at DeSales 2026 Commencement Ceremony
DeSales University proudly recognized Luz A. Pomaquiza ’26 as the recipient of the Provincial Medal of Honor during its 2026 Commencement ceremony on May 10, celebrating her outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and embodiment of the University’s core values.
The prestigious Provincial Medal of Honor was presented by the Very Rev. Jack Kolodziej, OSFS, Provincial of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. The award is given annually to one graduate from each Oblate school who best exemplifies the spirit of St. Francis de Sales. The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, who carry forward this mission, present the honor in the hope that recipients will continue to grow in the virtues modeled by the University’s patron and namesake.
“I am incredibly honored to have received this award. To be recognized as someone who exemplifies the spirit of St. Francis de Sales is a dream come true, as striving toward that kind of virtue is my deepest aspiration,” said Luz. “DeSales University truly shaped me into the person I am today, and I left the university with so much growth, support, and gratitude. I will always be proud of this accomplishment, and proud to now be among the alumni of DeSales University.”
A resident of Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania, Pomaquiza graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Throughout her time at DeSales, she demonstrated not only academic excellence but also an energetic commitment to community, compassion, and faith.
During Pomaquiza’s undergraduate experience she embraced campus life fully, forming meaningful friendships and encouraging those around her to foster connection and resilience. Known among her peers as a source of support and positivity, she inspired fellow students to stay grounded in what brings them joy and to rely on faith through both challenges and celebrations.
Whether sharing moments of camaraderie after demanding weeks of study or uplifting others during challenging times, Pomaquiza consistently reflected the welcoming and compassionate spirit that defines the DeSales community.
Her contributions have left a lasting impact on campus, reinforcing the University’s commitment to developing graduates who lead with both intellect and heart.
“This is the highest honor we Oblates of St. Francis de Sales bestow, and Luz is uniquely worthy. Her gentleness and humility exemplify our Catholic, Salesian mission with grace and energy. From her presence in the classroom and in the clinic to her service in Campus Ministry and example of faith, she embodies the legacy of Jane de Chantal and Francis de Sales. I have to believe they are as proud of her as we are,” Fr. Kevin Nadolski, OSFS, vice president for mission, said.
DeSales University congratulates Luz on this well-deserved honor and extends its gratitude for the enduring mark she has made on the community.
