Dozens of students celebrated Black History Month with food, fun, and flair.

The Black Student Union welcomed the campus community to an Afro-Caribbean Carnival in the Dorothy Day Student Union. The party featured authentic Caribbean food—like oxtail, jerk chicken, and rice and peas—along with music.

“Everyone looks like they’re having a great time, and the food is delicious.”

Courtney Taylor ’23, a communication major and president of the Black Student Union, said the club’s executive board came up with the idea to host the carnival as a way to raise awareness of Black History Month and share different experiences within the Black experience.

“A lot of us in the Black Student Union are of Caribbean and African descent,” Taylor said. “We wanted to share that aspect of our culture that doesn’t get shared a lot.”
