Major: Medical studies major in the Master of Science in physician assistant studies program

Branch of Service/Rank: Marines, sergeant

What inspired you to enlist?

My dad served in the Marines, and when I graduated high school, I had no interest in college. The Marines seemed like an interesting way to spend my time before deciding what I wanted to do. I chose that branch because they had a reputation for being the most difficult.

How has our Office of Veterans and Military Services helped you?

They have been very helpful, especially Wendy, with scholarships and dealing with the process of the GI Bill. They are also great at providing resources for veterans outside of school.

You are the chairperson of our DeSales SVA Toys for Tots campaign. Why is this cause important to you?

Toys for Tots has been a part of the Marine Corps Reserves since the end of World War II. It is a great way to provide community service to those who are less fortunate, especially around the holiday season, which can be especially difficult for those in need. Toys for Tots connects the community to these families by providing the logistics to supply as many families as possible with new toys.

What do you hope to achieve this year as chairperson of the SVA Toys for Tots campaign?

Last year, we collected almost three full boxes to donate. This year, I hope to exceed that amount, but any amount contributed will be amazing.

How can people donate to Toys for Tots?

Donations of new, unwrapped toys or books for Toys for Tots will be collected from now until Dec. 15. Donation boxes are located in Dooling Hall, Dorothy Day, the DeSales University Center, the Gambet Center, and Trexler Library. Donations can also be dropped off at the Office of Veterans and Military Services, Dooling Hall, room 215.

This November, DeSales is highlighting members of our campus community who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. We appreciate all that you do.
