Fulfilling a Dream–Annual London Trip Returns

London Trip 2022

For the first time since 2019, students traveled across the pond with the Office of Student Engagement.

When the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the annual trip to London in 2020, no one knew how long it would be before students could travel abroad again. Flash forward two years, a group of 15 DeSales students and four faculty and staff members set off to England.

“This trip was just another chapter on the road back from the pandemic for the student experience at DeSales.”

Nick Luchko, associate dean of students for engagement and leadership

The trip’s itinerary was jam-packed with activities from visiting the Tower of London and Stonehenge to seeing Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and Piccadilly Circus. There was also plenty of free time allotted, allowing participants to explore the city on their own.

For Grace Bowmaster ’23, a musical theatre major, the trip offered more than just a chance to do some major sightseeing—she fulfilled a lifelong dream.

“London is somewhere I have always wanted to go because I would be able to see some West End shows,” said Bowmaster. “I had the opportunity to go see ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Moulin Rouge.’ I also got to see the production of ‘Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella’ before it closed.”

Before the trip, Bowmaster had never been on a plane, let alone traveled without her family. Now?

“I’m more prepared for how things work and know what I am going to enjoy. I’m hoping that there will be another trip that I can take with the school. I am a very hands-on learner.”

Luchko hopes to offer another trip to London in May 2023. Students who are interested in attending are encouraged to check their DeSales email regularly this fall semester, and keep an eye out for promotions around campus.
