More than 500 girls from across the Lehigh Valley gathered at DeSales University to participate in this year’s Girls on the Run Lehigh Valley 5K presented by St. Luke’s University Health Network.

“Girls on the Run is a race, but the message stretches beyond that,” says Reilly Carr ’22. “The race isn’t easy, and the girls and running buddies that participate know they are strong and come out feeling even stronger.”

A business administration major at DeSales, Carr was one of 17 students to help plan and market the event for her senior business capstone project. She knows firsthand the confidence that the event can inspire, having participated in it as a child.

“It is important for any child to know that they have the ability to do whatever they put their mind to. It is very important to teach children this healthy, strong mindset at an early age.”

This is the fourth 5K that DeSales has hosted for Girls on the Run. The race is the first large, in-person event that the organization has been able to hold since the fall of 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
