Local pros are teaching DeSales students the ins and outs of supply chain management.

The supply chain management major and the Traffic Club of the Lehigh Valley hosted a special event titled “Why Supply Chain? Meet the Professionals.” Bill Kent, CEO and president of Matheny Medical and Educational Center, kicked off the event with a keynote speech, setting the scene for an in-depth discussion of various supply chain topics.

Following the keynote, students met with Kent and distinguished supply chain professionals from the Traffic Club in breakout sessions and discussed various issues including logistics, import/export, purchasing, and strategic supply chain management. The event gave interested students a peek inside the growing profession.

“An agile and responsive supply chain is only possible with 100% visibility into your supply chain tiers, upstream and downstream,” said Sedat Cevikparmak, Ph.D., assistant professor and chair of the supply chain management major. “Yet almost 70% of top managers think that they lack this visibility, which proves the point that supply chain management as a career option has great potential as many firms are striving to hire the best talent trained in this area.”
