Angelo Ezzo, Matthew Castro Selected as National Esports Student Representatives
Two members of the DeSales esports team are lending their voices to benefit fellow athletes.
Angelo Ezzo ’22 (pictured above) and Matthew Castro ’24 are two of the 18 students tapped to serve on the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Student Representative Pilot Program.
“I wanted to work to create an environment that I would feel comfortable competing in,” says Castro, a computer science major. “That was something that was really important to me going into it. Our decisions are going to affect every future player that joins NACE.”
As student representatives, Castro and Ezzo will work to give NACE a student voice by advising the association’s leadership and offering feedback on all aspects of operations, benefitting both current and future players.
For Ezzo, an early childhood education major, joining the pilot program is a chance to take on a leadership role before becoming a teacher.
“I think it’s a valuable skill set to acquire for my own professional development."
“Being on an esports team, there are a lot of skills that you develop that aren’t typically recognized," says Ezzo. "One thing that’s been huge for our team has been communication and being able to effectively communicate what’s important in a clear and concise way. It’s such an applicable thing and it’s very far reaching.”
