DeSales Students Volunteer, Cheer on Athletes at Special Olympics Bowling Sectional

Dozens of DeSales students took time out of their weekend for a cause near and dear to their hearts.
About 50 students participated in the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Eastern Bowling Sectional, helping to run the games at the Rose Bowl. Student volunteers assisted with everything from registration and cheering to manning the lanes and handing out meals.
“Being able to play a role in bringing joy to the athletes as they compete and showcase their skills is absolutely priceless. There is nothing better than seeing the smiles on the athletes’ faces as they are being recognized for their hard work and success.”
DeSales has a long and proud tradition of taking part in the Eastern Bowling Sectional. In 2018, it also began hosting the Eastern Fall Sectional—the largest service event in the University’s history.
“It’s a continuation of our mission of inclusion for our community,” says Jaime Gerhart, director of the Center for Service and Social Justice. “We all have abilities and we all have gifts, and it’s wonderful to share them all together.”
