The DeSales University MBA Program has a new way to help business professionals remove waste, maximize efficiency, and solve problems. The program is adding a new concentration and master’s level certificate in Lean Six Sigma.

“Lean Six Sigma is a discipline that focuses on two objectives: eliminating waste in our day-to-day business processes and activities and reducing variance in other critical business processes,” says Dr. David Gilfoil, vice president for marketing and planning. “Lean Six Sigma has a very broad appeal for most any work environment—corporations, start up ventures, hospitals, or schools—where optimal efficiency and effectiveness are important while serving internal and external clients or customers.”

To earn an MBA with a concentration in Lean Six Sigma, students will have to complete seven core courses, three concentration courses, one elective, and a capstone course for a total of 36 credits. They’ll have seven years to complete the program, but it could take as few as 18 months if one has the time and is highly motivated. Most students take two to four years depending on family, work, travel, and other considerations.

The master’s level certificate in Lean Six Sigma consists of four, three-credit courses. Students could complete the certificate in as little as six to 10 months but, like the concentration, will have seven years to do so. Courses for both the certificate and concentration are offered online, on campus, or in a hybrid of the two.

“Survey data from our current, prospective, and past MBA students have strongly indicated the need for these curriculum offerings,” says Gilfoil. “We are pleased to be able to accommodate those market needs in a variety of venues and formats. DeSales MBA is uniquely poised to offer an MBA concentration or a master’s certificate in Lean Six Sigma taught by deeply experienced and credentialed Lean Six Sigma master black belts, black belts, and others from a variety of industry backgrounds.”

DeSales will begin offering the concentration and certificate in the 2019 Fall MBA session.
