Junior nursing student Kaylee Thomas '19 has an extra thousand dollars to put toward tuition, thanks to the Lehigh County Medical Auxiliary Scholarship and Education Fund (LeCoMASE).

Thomas received LeCoMASE's 2017-2018 nursing scholarship, which is awarded to a third-year nursing student who lives in Lehigh County and is in good academic standing.

"I'm extremely grateful for it," Thomas says. "I'm thankful. College is not cheap."

Martha Maffeo, president of LeCoMASE, and Barbara Peters, chair of the nursing scholarship program at LeCoMASE, presented Thomas with the $1,000 scholarship.

LeCoMASE was established in 1968 to provide financial assistance to medical students from Lehigh County. In 2013, it set up a nursing scholarship award at DeSales.
