Nursing Student Kayla Homan to Receive Excellence Award
A nursing career is about saving lives and being a patient’s advocate—something that Kayla Homan ’20 is learning early on. Lehigh Valley Health Network will present Homan with the John M. Eisenberg Award for Excellence as a Student Nurse on May 2 because of the way she excels as a professional in patient care.
“I have always loved caring for others and service was a big part of my life growing up. Knowing that nursing was a vocation where I would be able to serve others really solidified my decision to become a nurse.”
The award was founded in 1981 and is dedicated to advancing professional nursing through scholarship support of many nursing students. Dr. Amanda Jenkinson, assistant professor of nursing, and Natalie DiFeo, instructor of nursing, nominated Homan for the award.
“Receiving this award inspires me to continue pushing myself to become a nurse that is dedicated to the holistic care of patients and families,” Homan states. “It gives me a platform to reach more people and share with them why nursing is such a unique, rewarding, and life-changing profession.”
Not only has Homan received this award, she was also a recipient of the Helene Fuld Health Trust Scholarship for Baccalaureate Nursing Students at the National Student Nurses Association Convention in April of 2018. She’s also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and will receive the National Engaged Leader Award in Spring 2019.
