Decking the Hallowed Halls of DeSales: IDEAS Club Flips the Switch on New Holiday Tradition
The DeSales community kicked off the holiday season with a new Christmas tradition.
The IDEAS Club held its inaugural tree lighting ceremony outside the Gambet Center on Friday evening. Students sang carols and kept warm with hot chocolate and s’mores.
“It’s getting everyone into the festivities of the holidays ... It’s a nice stress reliever on a Friday night right before finals.”
Andrew Peterson ’19, who joined the IDEAS Club two years ago.
The club is no stranger to community service and works with organizations like the Lehigh County Humane Society and Special Olympics. It launched the tree lighting ceremony at the suggestion of Dr. Thomas Craig, the club’s advisor, and received tremendous support.
“We had a lot of support from the business division, Father Greenfield, and the facilities department, which is really nice and we appreciate it.”
The ceremony was part of the inaugural Jingle Bell Trail, which also featured Lights in the Heights and the Bulldog Blizzard. Students who picked up a trail passport and attended all three events were entered into a drawing to win a $75 Amazon gift card.
