General FAQs

Q: How will DeSales be handling the arrival of students from states on PA’s recommended self-quarantine list?

A: The University has contacted each student traveling to campus from a state on PA’s list for recommended quarantine upon return. While each student’s situation is unique, all will follow the state’s guidance for self-quarantine before beginning the fall 2020 semester.

Q: How are the residence halls being modified to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

A: The health and safety of our students living on campus is a top priority. As such, DeSales is helping to protect students by implementing the following health protocols: PPE stations are installed in all residence halls; housekeeping is disinfecting high-touch surfaces daily; common areas are limited to prevent congregation; and outside visitors are not permitted entrance.

Q: Am I permitted to visit?

A: Yes, residents are permitted to welcome guests under the following guidelines: 1) Visitors must undergo symptom screening before coming to campus, 2) Visitors must register with University Police before meeting their guest, and 3) Visitors are not permitted in the residence halls but may meet with their guest in a designated common area.

Q: Will students be screened for COVID-19 before moving in?

A: The University will not test students for COVID-19 prior to move-in, however, students are expected to self-monitor for symptoms daily. Before returning to campus or attending class, students, faculty, and staff must complete and follow the instructions provided via Health Champion, a COVID-19 self-screening, available via smartphone application or computer.

Q: Are there additional supplies my residential student will need because of the pandemic?

A: All students will receive a face mask and hand sanitzer during move-in. Although not required, recommended additional supplies include: extra face masks/coverings, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, blankets, lawn chairs, headphones, laptop, extra chargers, paper towels, thermometer, disposable gloves, and hand soap.

Q: Is there specific technology my student needs in case all classes go 100% online?

A: All students need a laptop computer with a webcam and headset. This page offers additional information regarding online learning at DeSales

Q: Will we get reimbursed for room and board if the University requires students to leave because of COVID-19?

A: The unpredictable nature of COVID-19 makes it difficult to predict future business decisions. However, in such a case, the University may consider a pro-rated adjustment for room and board similar to the approach taken during the spring semester.

Q: Will my student have an opportunity to pursue study abroad?

A: At this time, study abroad programs are proceeding as planned and following the relevant government and agency guidelines.

Q: Is there a chance DeSales University will switch to remote learning this fall similar to other local institutions?

A: We are holding firm to our Ready-for-Anything plan for fall which includes a robust on-campus experience for students.
