COVID-19 Conduct Policy

By voluntarily choosing to return to DeSales University’s campus under these conditions, students commit to following the University’s protocols, procedures, and requirements described in this policy.

Creating and maintaining a healthy environment that limits the opportunity for transmission of COVID-19 is crucial during this pandemic. We need to respect and support each other in meeting essential standards and holding each other accountable. Compliance with the established social distancing, personal protective equipment (PPE), and health and hygiene protocols is expected of us all. Repeated or intentional disregard of the protocols is not permissible and will result in disciplinary action and possible loss of privileges to reside on campus and/or attend in-person classes.

By voluntarily choosing to return to DeSales University campus under these conditions, students commit to following the University’s protocols, procedures, and requirements described in this policy.

When addressing violations of the University’s COVID-19 policy, the primary approach will be educational. In situations where a student may have accidentally, unintentionally, or carelessly violated a COVID-19 policy that could put other members of the DeSales community in greater risk, they will typically be reminded of the COVID-19 policy and the Salesian Solidarity Pledge and encouraged to reflect on how their behavior may be impacting DeSales’ commitment to the common good through a conversation with the Office of Student Conduct. If at any time students becomes unwilling or unable to abide by the commitments outlined in this policy or the Salesian Solidarity Pledge, they will be expected to remove themselves from campus.

However, students should also understand that the University will not tolerate deliberate, reckless, or repeated disregard of the COVID-19 policy or the Salesian Solidarity Pledge such as repeated violations of the visitation policy or a social gathering on or off campus that results in a spike in COVID-19 cases; or violating quarantine or isolation protocols, etc.  The health and well-being of the entire DeSales University community is our shared responsibility. Students who engage in conduct in deliberate, reckless, or repeated disregard of the COVID-19 policy or the Salesian Solidarity Pledge will have forfeited the privilege to be on campus and will be restricted from accessing all campus facilities, including but not limited to Billera Hall, athletic fields, Labuda Theatre, Brisson Dance Studio, in-person labs, all academic buildings and all residence halls.  If this were to occur, these students would be invited to complete their Spring 2021 academic coursework remotely.

Members of the Office of Student Conduct will review all allegations of COVID-19 policy violations to determine if a violation has occurred and, if appropriate, revoke a student’s eligibility to remain in campus housing and/or continue with in-person classes.
