Financial Sanity Lecture Teaches Students to Plan for Future
As college students, most of us fall into one of two categories: we either push the topic of finances under the carpet, or we obsess over the future of our precious little piggy bank.
The Career Development Center, Office of Financial Aid, and MassMutual of Greater Philadelphia joined forces for a financial sanity lecture, aimed at helping students in both camps by reminding us that, while it's never too early to plan for the future, there will come a time when it's too late.
“Start to think about [finances],” said Joe Leary, a DeSales alum and certified financial planner with MassMutual. “You don't have to figure it out today or tomorrow—I'm still doing it—but it's something you want to start considering."
By approaching the topics in a laid back manner, the presenters created an atmosphere welcoming to people of any experience level. In doing so, the lecturers were able to cover topics including student debts, payback plans, savings, investments, and retirement.
