Fr. Douglas Burns, OSFS
Sport and Exercise Physiology
He did his undergraduate work in physiology at Washington State University and his graduate studies in the Human Performance Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University. His research interests include human temperature regulation response to work in water and other thermally stressing environments, as well as human metabolic response to interval training and to eccentric versus concentric exercise modes. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine. Fr. Burns also pursues an interest in sport and athletics in relation to faith and religion.
He serves the DeSales Athletic Program as moderator of several sports and works with planning spiritual activities for the athletes. He has coached swimming for more than 30 years, and keeps that interest alive by coaching in local swimming club programs. He joined the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales in 1991 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1999.
