Spanish, BA , Minor

Overview

Spanish majors study the language, culture, and literature of Spanish speaking countries.

Spanish courses at DeSales promote understanding and respect for global cultural diversity and are complemented by optional extra-curricular activities, service learning opportunities, and study abroad experiences. Advanced courses position you to use Spanish in your field of choice to make you more competitive in the job market and prepare you for graduate school.

Our program emphasizes all four linguistic skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing, as well as the development of good techniques in analytical and critical thinking. We also have courses in Culture and Civilization, Literature, Spanish for the medical professional, and the art of translation.

Christine Fischer 2017 - Medical-Spanish
Supplementing Medical Studies with a Spanish major was a door-opening decision for me. DeSales provided pathways to complete internships, study abroad, and build crucial fluency. Having a basis in medical Spanish, as well as experience in translation and interpretation, could not be more valuable as I move into the healthcare world, accepting my first job in the Lehigh Valley.
