Opportunities in theatre, dance, and TV/film with college credit for qualifying students
The Division of Performing Arts at DeSales University is pleased to again offer professional arts training camps for summer 2014. These intensive programs feature one- and two-week arts immersion experiences with college credit available for students graduating in 2016 or prior. Each program, except for the Summer Theatre Institute Junior Program, also offers the option to reside on the DeSales University Campus at an additional cost.
The Summer Video Institute offers professional training in digital filmmaking for ages 13 and up; the Summer Theatre Institute offers professional theatre training for high school and college students as well as a junior program for grades four through eight; and the Summer Dance Intensive offers professional dance training for ages 14 and up.
“These programs afford us the opportunity to expose young people to the marvelous facilities here on the DeSales campus and to offer them the chance to work with our terrific faculty and a slate of professional guest artists,” says John Bell, head of the Division of Performing Arts. “This is also an opportunity for young students who are drawn to the performing arts to spend time on a college campus and to get professional-level training. We hope they begin to imagine pursuing a career in the arts.”
The Summer Video Institute (June 16 to 21) offers an introduction to the theories and techniques of digital movie making. Working with state-of-the-art technology, students design, shoot, and edit films of their own creation during this one-week program. Classes include equipment training, production, and editing. The program culminates in a festival of films created by the participants that is open to invited guests. Students wishing to build on the skills learned during the Summer Video Institute may participate in the Advanced Summer Video Institute (June 23 to 28). Tuition for each program is $990 plus a $25 application fee. College credit is available.
