Thanks to Abigail Wernicki, director of graduate admissions, and her husband Nick, a graduate of the class of 1993, students at DeSales will be able to create memories while serving the global community.
Working with the Center for Social Justice (CSSJ) and the institutional advancement office, the couple has created a grant to support students who aspire to travel overseas on service trips, where they will aim to better the lives of those who need it most.
“[Nick and I] wanted to have a way to help support students at DeSales, especially the ones traveling overseas to help those less fortunate,” said Mrs. Wernicki. “Travel is expensive and some students may not be able to afford it themselves.”
This year’s donation will provide $1,200 for a student’s travel costs, including airfare. The student will be chosen through an application process. The Wernickis hope to continue to donate so that they can support students and their travel and service goals in the future.
“We are both so impressed by the work that is done through CSSJ,” said Mrs. Wernicki. “We feel passionately about supporting the DeSales community since we’re so connected to it, and we want to try and help someone who wants to help the community.”
