DeSales Theology Student Wins National Essay Contest

by Tom McNamara | Dec 16, 2013

DeSales University junior Daniel Drain, a philosophy and theology major, has won the Father Michael J. McGivney College Essay Contest

Drain's essay, titled Creatio Logisai, analyzed a quote from Gaudium et Spes (Joy and Hope), the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World. The document is an overview of the Catholic Church's teachings about humanity's relationship to society, especially in reference to economics, poverty, social justice, culture, science, technology and ecumenism.

The contest, sponsored by the The Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at Catholic University, seeks to encourage deeper reflection on the themes of culture, person, God, love, marriage, and family, especially as developed in the theological work of John Paul II and Benedict XVI.
