On September 25, twenty-two students and four business faculty visited PPL EnergyPlus for a tour of the company’s trading room floor. PPL EnergyPlus representatives gave an overview of the firm and discussed the company’s internship program. There was also a panel discussion with DeSales alumni who are PPL EnergyPlus employees.
Students found the trading room was the most interesting part of the trip as it gave them an opportunity to see what really goes on outside of the classroom.
“I liked how we went to different stations on the trade floor and each person told us about their job and how they contributed to the company,” said accounting major Alyssa Malatesta ’15. “The employees were all willing to answer our questions and seemed excited about explaining their jobs to us. It was an exciting environment to be around.”
Accounting and finance major Michelle Foster ’15 enjoyed visiting a well-known and successful company and commented on the positive and friendly atmosphere. “Everyone we talked to was really nice and willing to answer any question we asked. Some people took time to show us what they were currently working on and explained the graphs and material pictured on their computer screens.”
The PPL EnergyPlus tour also offered the current business students an opportunity to meet DeSales alumni and hear about their experiences. The alumni who participated in the panel discussion included Bob Muhr ’97, Jessica Diehl ’02, Erik Lett ’10, and MBA alumna Kristen Branning ’12. Other alumni who participated in the tour included Lauren Colarette ’03, Zane Kershner ’03, Alison Wehr ’02, MBA alumnus Henry Baumann ’83, and MBA student Paul Keeler ’14.
Overall, DeSales business students learned a lot about PPL EnergyPlus and were able to gain a sense of what it’s like to work in a corporate environment giving them more enthusiasm for future employment endeavors.
