Rising junior and DeSales athlete Alyssa Brandt
is currently doing a six-week internship abroad in Koforidua, Ghana, and she has been documenting her trip on a blog. Brandt is a biology major and a member of both the women's soccer and women's indoor and outdoor track & field team at DeSales. You can follow her blog and read about her experience at the link below.
When asked about her trip and how she came about the opportunity Brandt said she found out about Projects Abroad online when looking for medical internships abroad. She wanted to study abroad but there wasn't many opportuntunities for science or medical majors. Now, in Ghana, she works three days a week in the local hospital in Koforidua and then two days a week doing medical outreach projects within the community. She is learning a lot of basic medical techniques in the hospital which she then practices on her outreach missions. She is also learning about tropical medicine and the healthcare systems in Africa. She will be there for six weeks, staying in Koforidua, a small town about an hour outside of the capital of Ghana, Accra.
