At DeSales University’s 2012 homecoming weekend, four alumni were recognized for their service to DeSales University and for their achievements post-graduation.
Thomas Blaisse ’75 was awarded the Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes an outstanding member of the DeSales community whose achievements have stretched beyond campus and inspired others along the way. The award is given annually to an alumnus or alumna with a strong commitment to the University, family, community, and profession. During his varied career, Blaisse has been a stand-out teacher, a consultant, a top-rated seminar leader, a published author (Stepping Up to the Plate); poet (We Are Climbers, All) and composer/lyricist of 13 Contemporary Christian songs produced under the title, Manifest the Glory of God (1997.) In 2011, he recorded a solo Holiday CD album titled It’s Christmas. Tom is a member of The National Speaker’s Association, the American Society for Training and Development, The Knights of Columbus (3rd degree) and the Boy Scouts of America (Eagle Scout).
Fr. Jim Chern ’95 was awarded the Alumni Service Award, which recognizes extraordinary alumni service to DeSales, as well as a life that reflects the ideals of St.Francis de Sales, patron of the University. Fr. Chern graduated from DeSales with degrees in theology and philosophy and is the chaplain at Montclair State University and the director of the Newman Catholic Center in Montclair, N.J. He’s also a regular guest on “The Catholic Guy Show” on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio’s The Catholic Channel and he’s the director of campus ministry for the Archdiocese of Newark.
Brandon Pousley ’10
received the Young Alumni Achievement Award
, which recognizes alumni who graduated within the last 10 years and who have made notable accomplishments while maintaining a strong commitment to the University, family, community, and profession. Since graduating from DeSales, Pousley has worked for eMediaWorks as an editor and producer of educational media, creating engaging video content for classrooms. He has received 3 Emmy Awards and 10 nominations in the Children’s Media category as an editor. He is enrolled in the master’s of education program at Harvard University, made possible in part by an Action in Children’s Television Fellowship.
Amanda Fabrizio ’07 was awarded the Young Alumni Service Award, which recognizes alumni who graduated within the last 10 years and who has given extraordinary service to the University while leading a life that reflects the ideals of St. Francis de Sales. Fabrizio works at Lehigh University as a communications specialist in the Industrial Systems Engineering Department, and she is pursing her master’s of education in educational leadership. She is president of the Rotary Club of Saucon and is a DeSales class agent and chair for the Class of 2007 reunion and gift committee.
