On Wednesday, September 5, Marcus Engel, author of After This…An Inspirational Journey for All the Wrong Reasons and The Other End of the Stethoscope, will speak at DeSales University. The lecture will be delivered at 3:00 p.m. in the Commonwealth Room of the DeSales University Center and is free and open to the public.
When Engel was a freshman in college, his life drastically changed when a drunk driver travelling at twice the speed limit slammed into the vehicle Engel was riding in. The resulting crash left Engel blind and facing hundreds of hours of reconstructive facial surgery and years of medical recovery. While still in the hospital, Engel had decided to return to college as quickly as possible and to reclaim his life. Not only did Engel accept and embrace the new challenges in his life, but the lessons he learned have become the center of his lectures that inspire thousands of people every day.
Engel’s speeches inspire audiences to achieve success by understanding repercussions of unhealthy decisions, turning adversity into victory, and by finding inspiration in unlikely places.
Character U, the first-year portion of the DeSales University Experience, is sponsoring Engel’s visit. Character U serves as a resource for first-year students to help make the transition from high school to college a little smoother, while also giving students character development opportunities through keynote speakers, diverse programs, campus events and meetings with their peer mentors.
