Character U First Year Experience at DeSales U

 

 

At DeSales, you’ll enroll in our Character U program as a first-year student, part of the larger DeSales Experience.

Character U is designed to ease the transition from high school to college and to help you develop core character values that will set you up to succeed at DeSales and in life after college. Through Character U, you’ll enjoy a close relationship with a peer mentor assigned to guide you through your first year, an instant social group in your dedicated pod of classmates, and a variety of Character U programing.

Be Inspired by monthly keynote speakers. Past speakers include Olympic gymnast Carley Patterson, national wrestling champion Anthony Robles, author Terry Caffey, 9/11 firefighter Jay Jones, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Barry Bridger, and CIA agent Jimmy Olson.

Venture Forth with trips to New York City and Philadelphia and travel opportunities to England, Italy, and Ireland. Grow your mind with programs offered by the career development center.

Serve Others through the Center for Service and Social Justice. Explore your faith through campus ministry.

Cheer Your Heart Out in support of our athletic teams.

Stay Happy, Stay Healthy with programs from our PACE peer advising team and the wellness center.

Character Traits

Programming throughout the year reflects character traits inspired by the Golden Counsels of Saint Francis de Sales. Each month, a trait is highlighted at Character U meetings and at various events across campus. 

Some Character U activities and events include:

  • Monthly keynote speakers. Past speakers have included national wrestling champion Anthony Robles, author Terry Caffey, 9/11 firefighter Jay Jones, Lt. Col. (Ret) Barry Bridger, and CIA agent Jimmy Olson

What’s Next?

After you finish your first-year at DeSales, you’ll have many opportunities and leadership roles that you can apply for. Leadership roles will not only engage you in campus life but will also open up new resources for you as you continue to develop your character and leadership abilities.
