Education

Dr. Skrzat is an assistant professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. She earned her BS, MS, and DPT degrees from Ithaca College. She received her PhD in Movement Science from Temple University.  

Clinical Experience/Expertise

Dr. Skrzat has practiced extensively in acute care hospital settings, specifically the intensive care units at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Skrzat is an APBTS board certified Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist. 

Teaching Responsibilities

Dr. Skrzat’s teaching responsibilities occur throughout all three years of the curriculum. Her primary teaching responsibilities include PT 644 Differential Diagnosis & Intervention – Cardiovascular and Pulmonary, PT 682 Clinical Medicine 2 – Cardiovascular and Pulmonary, PT 740 Differential Diagnosis & Intervention – Special Populations, and PT 792 Promoting Health and Wellness. Dr. Skrzat is also a co-instructor in PT 520 Foundations of Patient Care I, PT 620 Foundations of Patient Care II, PT 643 Differential Diagnosis & Interventions – Geriatrics, and PT 760 Clinical Reasoning 4.

Scholarship/Research Interests

Dr. Skrzat’s research interests include developing a better understanding of the muscle physiological changes that occur in patients who are critically ill. By understanding this knowledge gap, more efficient and effective therapeutic interventions may be implemented, with the ultimate goal to optimize functional outcomes. Her current research project involves studying muscle fatigue and recovery of the knee extensors using surface electromyography in adults who are healthy and critically ill.  

Dr. Skrzat shares her knowledge and research by guest lecturing at multiple universities, as well as through national and international conferences. In addition, she is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, American Thoracic Society, Specialization Academy of Content Experts as an item writer for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists exams and an abstract reviewer for the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association’s Annual Conference.

Personal

In her free time, Dr. Skrzat enjoys international travel, dance, spending time with family and friends, and supporting her favorite hockey team, the Philadelphia Flyers.
