Dr. Julie (Aaron) Himmelberger joined the DeSales University faculty in 2010, where she is Associate Professor of Biochemistry. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at McMaster University in 2005, followed by her PhD in Biological Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania in 2010. During her PhD studies she was the recipient of a National Institute of Health Predoctoral Fellowship for research at the Chemistry-Biology Interface and was the coordinator of the Chemical Biophysics Mini Symposia Series. Dr. Himmelberger teaches general chemistry, biochemistry, advanced molecular biology, and chemistry senior research seminar courses as well as coordinates assessment for the chemistry and biochemistry-molecular biology majors. In 2011, she was selected to collaborate with the Department of Energy¹s Joint Genome Institute Undergraduate Research Microbial Gene Annotation Program. Her research interests include protein X-ray crystallography, evolutionary relationships among proteins and the development of structure-based biochemistry teaching labs. Dr. Himmelberger lives in Montgomery County with her husband and daughter. When she is not teaching, she enjoys baking, biking, traveling and spending time with her family.
