Begin taking nursing courses in the first semester of your sophomore year as you prepare for your career in nursing.
Extensive clinical and laboratory experience is an important part of the curriculum, and you'll practice at local hospitals, nursing homes, and outpatient clinical facilities. You'll be guaranteed quality clinical placement in all subspecialties, including medical-surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatry, acute care, and community health. Your senior year culminates in a capstone clinical and classroom experience where you'll manage a patient caseload under the supervision of a preceptor and present case studies for peer critique. Seniors who carry a 3.0 grade point average or better are eligible to enroll in one graduate course.

Nursing Class of 2017 Makes History on National Licensure Exam
Janelle Hill | Nov 28, 2017
Senior nursing students in DeSales University’s Class of 2017 have made history. The class earned a 96.36 percent pass rate on the NCLEX-RN, the national licensure examination. Not only is the percentage the highest in the department’s 44-year history, but it also topped state and national averages.
“I’m so proud of the students and also congratulate the faculty who educated these students to achieve this pass rate,” says Dr. Mary Elizabeth Doyle-Tadduni, chair of the Department of Nursing and Health. “We work as a team here in the department with the best interest of our students at hand at all times.”
Nursing students must take the NCLEX-RN to become a registered nurse. Out of 110 students in the class, 106 passed. “One of the first questions many students will ask when they’re looking for admittance into a nursing school is, ‘what is your NCLEX pass rate?’”
Doyle-Tadduni credits the hard work of the nursing faculty over the last five years and their willingness to reassess the curriculum and make changes for these positive outcomes.
